Distracted Driving
At Last! Distracted Driving Epidemic is Solved with Innovative Cell Phone Monitoring Software
Using cellular phones while driving is a leading cause of accidents. The United States Dept of Transportation reported that 5,870 people were killed and about 515,000 were hurt in 2008 in motor vehicle wrecks involving distracted drivers.

Earlier this year the US Transportation Department presented a proposal to outlaw text messaging at the wheel by cross-state truck and bus drivers. This regulatory action follows up on Department of Transportation call to reduce distractions that lead to accidents.
The Governors Highway Safety Association (GHSA) reports that driver inattention is a leading factor in many crashes, and mobile phone calls and sending text messages are leading causes of driver distractions. State legislatures have responded to the growing outrage over cell phone calls and texting while driving by enacting a variety of new laws, inclucing banning handheld cell phone use or texting by all drivers or restricting mobile phone use or texting for a specific demographic, such as teens or school bus drivers. Another nine states prohibiting texting by new drivers. The remaining states are expected to implement the ban eventually. However it is also widely recognized that the laws are not enough to stop the problem and technical solutions are neede.
As legislation and technology work to to address the problems Phone Beagle Cell Phone Monitoring is doing something about it. PhoneBeagle installs on Android and BlackBerry cell phones and monitors GPS location, and Text Messages, Website Visit History along with other call log activity and Distracted Driver Alert.
The trucking and passenger bus industries support the texting ban, and many companies have firm policies prohibiting texting while driving. Undoubtedly there are numerous distractions interfering with a driver focusing on driving: fiddling with the radio or a putting in tape or CD, talking to passengers, observing an event outside the vehicle, and of course, using mobile phones and texting. Navigational and other interactive devices also cause inattention.
GPS Tracking is a key component to the Distracted Driving Solution. Mobile communications means more than just placing a phone call while moving. However GPS satellites aren’t always available, for example when the phone is in a structure such as an school, shopping center, or even when driving. That doesn’t mean smartphone locating isn’t available, but it does mean there are other ways of being a locator.
Tracking a mobile phone involves several main methods of determining smartphone location. GPS Global Positioning System-Satellites, Triangulation, and CellID. All these technologies convert mobile phones into mobile tracking devices. These systems can be viewed as Network Based, Handset Based or a Hybrid approach. GPS location is Handset based as it needs software programs installed on the mobile phone in conjunction with GPS hardware. Triangulation and CellID are Network Based as they use the equipment and data from the cellular provider. Hybrid systems combine methods to make best use of available data and to make location cell tracking faster. It doesn’t work particularly well indoors or in crowded cities.
Selecting real-time or periodic sampling affects both the accuracy of determining position as well as how long the battery will last. GPS receivers sometimes take longer to become ready to use after it’s turned on because it must acquire some basic information in addition to finding GPS satellite signals. This slow start is sometimes caused when the GPS mobile phone has been turned off for days or weeks, or has been transported a significant distance while unused for. The GPS must update its almanac and ephemeris data and store it in memory. The GPS almanac is a set of data that every GPS satellite transmits. When a GPS receiver has current almanac data in memory, it can capture satellite signals and calculate initial position more quickly.

Sexting Could be Illegal
Be Responsible or Let your Kid Ruin Their Life – Sexting is a Potential Sex Crime
A recent report from The National Campaign to Prevent Teen and Unplanned Pregnancy indicates that about 20% of teens (ages 13-19) and an incredible 33% of young adults (ages 20-26) have shared nude or semi-nude pictures of themselves either using mobile phone SMS text messages or by posting online. Teen girls are slightly more likely to do this than boys and a very disturbing 11% of the young teen girls (ages 13-16) admitted to sending suggestive photos of themselves.
Recent reports from The Nielsen Company and the Pew Research Center point toward several factors that should be causing concern for parents and guardians. These topics are also an opportunity for solution providers. There is a rise in the number of youths that own cellular phones, the amount of texting they do, and more troubling the number of young adults that are occupied with “sexting” – the sending of provocative images or text messages from mobile phones.
Why the fuss and bother? Just innocent fun, adolescents exploring their emerging sexuality?
You might want to reconsider. Sending a sexually explicit picture of someone underage is a sex crime. Young people are being arrested, convicted and having to register as sex offenders. They are gambling with more than emotional distress and humiliation, charges of sexual misconduct can result in getting suspended and expelled from school, losing scholarships, and losing jobs. A felony conviction may also affect future employment opportunities, including law enforcement and other high-security clearance positions. In other words, ruining their lives over a little “innocent” fun.
There isn’t anything innocent about it. Consider that if a young teen sends a sexting image of themselves – they could be violating child pornography statues in most states.
Getting convicted in felony court for “sexting” can result in other serious consequences. In addition to the potential jail sentence and/or fine imposed by the court, they may be required to register with the Sex Offender Registration Board for the next 20 years. Furthermore, the criminal court may order the surrender and destruction of the computer or digital devices used.
As sending text messages from mobile phones has become a focus in teen social life, parents, educators and advocates have grown increasingly troubled about the role of cell phones in the sexual lives of young people. A recent research study from the Pew Research Center’s Internet & American Life Project (pewinternet.org/topics/Teens.aspx) found that 4% of mobile phone owning teenagers ages twelve to seventeen indicate they have transmitted sexually suggestive nude or nearly nude images or videos of themselves to other people via SMS text messages. This practice is commonly known as “sexting” in today’s vernacular. Furthermore, fifteen percent say they have received these kinds of images images of someone they actually know via text message.
According to research from marketing research firm The Nielsen Company (blog.nielsen.com/nielsenwire/online_mobile/under-aged-texting-usage-and-actual-cost/) American teenagers transmit an unbelievable average of ten SMS text messages every hour that they are not in school or sleeping – and probably a lot during school too!
By evaluating over than forty thousand monthly US mobile telecom bills, Nielsen found that American teens sent an average of an inconceivable 3,146 texts each month during the third quarter 2009.
Their younger counterparts – tweenagers – aged nine to twelve sent an average of 1,146 texts each month. That equates to four per hour they were in school or not sleeping. To put that in perspective, the average number of monthly texts sent by all cell phone users collectively was a little more than 500. In the fourth quarter 2009, tweenage users ages 9-12 years old increased messaging usage by eight percent and almost doubled their text message volume.
Focus group findings show that sexting happens usually under one of three specific scenarios: The first, involves exchanges of images solely between two romantic partners;
the next, lists exchanges between partners that are then shared outside the relationship; followed by, exchanges between people who are not yet in a relationship, but where often one party hopes to be.
Teens were interviewed and gave researchers a variety of explanations surrounding the motivation to get involved with sexting. These included the researcher’s interpretation that “…sexually suggestive images had become a form of relationship currency,”; that sexting images “… are shared as a part of or instead of sexual activity,” and that SMS text message sexting is a way of establishing a relationship. Sensitive images are also passed along to friends “… for their entertainment value, as a joke, or for fun.”
Teens also shared with researchers the pressure they feel to share these types of pictures. Not surprisingly the report revealed that teenagers that are intensive users of cellular phones are more likely to to be sent sexually suggestive images. For these youths, the phone has become such a common means for communication and a variety of content that turning it off is unlikely.
The desire for risk-taking and sexual exploration during the teenage years mixed with constant connection via cellular phones and other mobile devices “…creates a ‘perfect storm’ for sexting,” said Pew’s Amanda Lenhart. “Teenagers have always grappled with issues around sex and relationships, but their coming-of-age mistakes and transgressions have never been so easily transmitted and archived for others to see.”
Despite some indications that per user usage has peaked (they can’t possibly use them more can they?!?) Nielsen predicts that overall text messaging usage will increase as the heavy text messaging population ages and entices the older generations to text with them in order to stay in contact with them. Existing SMS users are expected to continue to use texting extensively and as tweenagers become teenagers they are in all probability going to follow the trends of texting established by current teenagers. The average number of text messages per user has increased every year, and there is room for growth.
If you’ve got children then you’re probably not shocked by the usage statistics. But chances are you’re also either in denial that your children are involved in sexting, or you’re actively seeking solutions to the problem. While parents may be upset that all the texts their teens and tweens are sending are going to break the bank, Nielsen analysis indicates the average cost of a single text message is just one cent. The real issue concerning parents is not so much how often teens use their phones but has more to do with how they use their phones, and when they are texting.
Sexting is a very complex issue. As a result, it is very hard to provide guidance on how best to manage these situations. The National Center For Missing & Exploited Children policy states that there are four roles to every sexting case: someone seen in the image, the individual who took the photo, the distributor(s) of the photo, and the recipient(s) of the photo. In some cases one person may assume more than one of these roles (e.g., a child takes a sexually explicit picture, of herself and sends it to a friend). In other situations, multiple people may take on a single role (e.g., a child takes a sexually explicit picture of himself and sends it to a classmate who then forwards the photo to the entire high school senior class). It is important to consider the intentions and motives of each of the parties in every situation.
The National Center For Missing & Exploited Children advocates parents monitor cell phone use. A practical technological solution available for parents and guardians to discover what their children are doing is mobile monitoring technology.
Sexting can be illegal. Parents are responsible to stop it. Especially when low cost solutions can be ordered online. A really great software package that includes remote control of device settings, and combines Cell Phone Tracking with SMS text message, Call Log, MMS multi-media message monitoring, and a web account for storage and review is PhoneBeagle.
What is Spyphone Software?
What’s Spyphone Software?
It all could come down to a matter of semantics. Spy Phone software for mobile phones doesn’t necessarily mean ‘spyware’. Does ‘monitoring’ mean ‘spying’? Descriptions depend upon use and intent of spyphone software rather than a technical standard. Stereotypically the difference often boils down to word use; ‘stealth’, ‘undetectable’ and ‘secret’ on one side, ‘monitoring’ on the other.
Spyware is a wide category of malicious software that can insert itself on cell phones, normally coming from internet connections. Spyware is normally designed toseize partial control of computer or smartphone operation without permission from the device’s user. Spyware is nasty computer software applications that surreptitiously obtain, monitor and report data from a user’s computer without their knowledge or permission. This can include private data such as details of sites visited, and even e-mail. Spyware can also do other nasty stuff such as slow down processes and alter programs and settings.
Many people may use ‘spy’ in terms used to describe justifiable monitoring of cell phones. There are many different reasonable explanations to monitor cell phones. If the monitoring has grounds then likely the term ‘spy’ is benign, and does not suggest illegal purpose. Not only is Parental Monitoring permitted, and Employee Monitoring acceptable, they are both compulsory and mandatory. If not legally, then morally and ethically; seeing as parents and employers are in a position to diminish tragedy and liability that develop from cell phone misuse or the need for protection. Authority comes with obligations.
Fortunately there is something that might put your mind at ease is that spyphone software applications require permission. Some spy phone software applications can be sent to the phone remotely, but not installed or activated. Useful resources deliverinig descriptions for spyphone software applications include

Spyware programmers employ a few techniques to produce spy phone software applications. Bluetooth spyphone software applications don’t offer evident permissable motivations for mobile phones monitoring. Bluetooth spyphone software programs seem intended solely for surreptious phone tapping which signifies malignant intent, and not permissable monitoring. In addition to that Bluetooth spyphone software applications commonly require user acceptance while calls are being made for activation which means they don’t work as surreptious spyware, thereby making Bluetooth spyphone software applications are a failure. Bluetooth spy phone software applications are a bad idea.
Other spyphone software programs typically capture cell phone activity such as GPS location, SMS messages, Call Logs and sometimes email. This data is either sent to an internet account for viewing, or forwarded by SMS to another cell phone or email.
GPS Location Tracking – GPS tracking delivers location to display on maps. Different systems have different capabilities regarding whether they track real time or historical location and how often location is polled and how often updates are sent. Frequent GPS use will deplete a smartphone battery.
Capturing SMS Text Messages – Sent and received text messages are usually recorded. Some spy phone software applications will capture SMS in spite of them being erased. SMS stands for Short Message Service, a communication system which allows operators to transmit 160 characters, between GSM mobile handsets.
Call History Logs – Incoming and outgoing call history logs of the cell phone. Some spyphone software applications will also record contact data.
A lot of people may be interested in smartphone spyphone software applications for legitimate monitoring for numerous lawful justifications, as well as some that are a little less acceptable.
To Catch a Cheater: Probably the most cited reason people needs to use cell phone spyphone software programs, is to catch a cheating spouse.
Parental Monitoring Teenagers Smartphone Usage: Parents and guardians use smartphone spy phone software applications to get a handle on distracted drivers, sexting, predators, excessive use.
Employee Monitoring: Corporations need mobile phone spyphone software programs to get a handle on Productivity, Insider Threats, Data Retention, Training and other uses.
Communications Back Up : Corporations, Parents and just about anyone rely on cell phone spy phone software applications to get a handle on lost data, when in case their phones are lost or stolen.
A smartphone is mobile phone with features and functions like a computer or others might refer to them as a mini computer with the features and functions of a mobile phone. But they are much more than the mere merger of mobile phone and personal digital assistant (PDA).
As mentioned before, and something to consider is that spy phone software programs require acceptance. Some smartphone spy phone software applications can be sent to the phone remotely, but not installed or activated. It isn’t a Trojan or a worm – they need a bit human human involvement and smartphone are a bit different than computers. Some anti-virus software can detect malicious software oncell phones. Malware is malicious software programs typically designed to be intrusive or damaging. Computer viruses, Trojan horses and worms are common types of malware. Malware can damage your computer, notebook or cell phone and may steal your personal information or just be annoying. Malware is not just an annoyance, it often damages computers and cell phones while potentially stealing personal data.
There are many bad people out there making trouble and some kind of anti-virus software program is mandatory on a broadband-enabled computers, laptops, and or mobile phones. Namebrand anti-virus software programs like Norton or McAfee are often included by mobile internet service providers and supplied for free. Other people rely on free versions of services like Avast and AVG. One way or another – the reality is an anti-virus software program is necessary to protect computers, laptops, and mobile phones.
Some spyphone software applications are quite refined and offered by reasonably honest companies; but sad to say the vast majority of offers come from unsecure people or other types of shady characters with false promises. Phone Beagle, at www.phonebeagle.com is a legitimate mobile phone monitoring software company.
What is a Smartphone?
With over 140 million sold every year around the world it is pretty likely that before too long you will be able to answer that question yourself!
A smartphone is a piece of equipment that allows a person to make cell phone calls, while also possessing extra features that essentially are normally associated with computers. But smartphones represent more than the mere union of cellular phone and personal digital assistant (PDA).
To better understand what a smartphone is all about a brief background of its evolution may be of use. While the early cell phones transformed by becoming smaller while simultaneously becoming more powerful, they also added what they could do. The initial chapter toward mobile phones becoming smartphones was the development of the personal digital assistant (PDA). While cellular phones main purpose personal digital assistants, epitomized by the Palm Pilot, were developed to be used as personal and portable organizers, and little more. Personal digital assistants could store contact data, ‘to-do’ lists, and could synchronize with desktop computers. Eventually personal digital assistants gained wireless functionality and users started emailing with them. Just as PDAs began incorporated into the mobile office environment, mobile phones began sending and receiving e-mails. Personal digital assistants became more like communications devices, cell phones gained computer-like features. The result is the smartphone.
There is not a cell phone industry standard definition for what makes up a smartphone. But there are some typical traits among smartphones, including:
QWERTY Keyboard: By most definitions smartphones usually include a QWERTY keyboard. Meaning that the keys are laid out in the same manner as they are on typewriters and computer keyboards, rather than in alphabetical order. Paradoxically the QWERTY Keyboard was originally designed in the 1800’s to slow down typists to prevent typewriters from jamming. We’ve been cursing that development ever since, with no hope for change any time soon!
One more common characteristic among smartphones includes having an Operating System. Generally speaking, a smartphone will be based on an operating system that allows it to run software applications just like a computer. The smartphone operating system is the most determining factor when trying to identify a smartphone. Some of the leading handset manufacturers use their own proprietary system which is exclusive to their brand – BlackBerry and Apple iPhone. Other operating systems are licensed to handset manufacturers, Android, Windows Mobile, Symbian operating systems are used by a wide range of hardware brands. When someone says” I have a BlackBerry”, then they have a BlackBerry operating system. If someone says I have an HTC or a Samsung, it might have Android, Windows Mobile or even a Symbian operating system. However not all BlackBerry operating systems have the identical functions. It is important to know the version, when attempting to verify if the phone is compatible with third-party software applications such as Parental Monitoring, Employee Monitoring and Information Backup software from PhoneBeagle for BlackBerry and Android .
Software and Web Access: Almost all mobile phones include some kind of software, as a contact manager for example , but a smartphone will have the capability to do many more things. Browse the internet work with documents and spreadsheets, review files, download additional software applications for various uses . The expansion of high speed data networks added to the addition of Wi-Fi, makes smartphones very useful.
Communications and Messaging: Any mobile phone includes SMS text messaging, but smartphones use email. MMS multimedia message service extends SMS text messaging to include longer text, graphics, photos, audio clips, video clips and is becoming common too. Not just a very good system for people to communicate, SMS can be a practical means for software programs to exchange simple messages, and even settings instructions, to and from mobile phones. SMS does not require a direct connection between smartphones; the communications infrastructure for the system is already prepared, and it works across most cellular networks. One aspect of text messaging that makes it especially valuable for mobile software programs is that it uses cell phone fixed identity, the phone number. Short Message Service (SMS) is a communication service component of the GSM mobile communication system. It utilizes standardized communications protocols that allow sending and receiving short text messages between mobile devices.
While having GPS location tracking isn’t unique to smartphones, however they are making more use of this technology. Before long GPS will become almost as common as the telephone, or more likely included with every phone handset. GPS can calculate locations accurate to a matter of. In fact, incredibly with advanced forms of GPS it is possible to make measurements to better than a centimeter! It’s just like assigning every square meter on the globe its very own address. To track a mobile phone involves several main ways of determining smartphone location. GPS Global Positioning System-Satellites, Triangulation, and CellID. All these technologies transform cell phones into mobile tracking systems.
An extremely impressive software program that helps parents and employers monitor cell phones and everyone to backup their communications information including GPS location, SMS text messages, MMS messages and phone event/call logs is Phone Beagle.

A workable technological solution available for parents and guardians to find out what teenagers are are upto is spyphone software. Top-quality software for Android and BlackBerry smartphones intended for legitimate and justified Phone Monitoring is Phone Beagle.
For less legitimate uses the leading spyphone program empowers you to quite simply convert popular cell phones into a remote listening device by sending SMS messages to remotely control its microphone, turn it on, and listen to the cell
phone environment or Intercept Calls and secretly tap into cell phone calls and listen to conversations. The most important issue isn’t technical, it’s legal. Unless you have authorization using it is illegal. Mobile tracking software programs are becoming quite popular and can do much more than track the location of mobiles.
If you think that’s surprising, think about the fact that you can turn the mobile phone into a remote listening device by sending messages to remotely control its microphone, turn it on, and listen to the cell phone surroundings. Think that is astounding or unbelievable consider that you can also Intercept Calls and secretly tap into mobile phone calls and listen to conversations.
Brand new technology are changing things regarding the desirability to balance privacy and protection. In recent years a few software companies have released ‘spyware’ for cell phones. cell phone monitoring software is often marketed to catch cheating spouses, but other reasonable uses include Parental monitoring how teens are using their, cell phones – such as the serious sexting epidemic – and for employee monitoring for productivity, industry regulatory compliance and ediscovery, along with numerous additional purposes.
Smartphones are the cell phones with computer capabilities.
Brands such as BlackBerry, iPhone, Windows Mobile, Android, Nokia Symbian – all have spyphone software available. Spy Call and Call Intercept mobile phone tapping needs the target phone uses a GSM network. Over three million smartphones a month are sold in the US and Canada, and they’re reaching almost one hundred and fifty million delivered per year around the world. A lot more information about this technology will be published soon.

Cell Phone GPS Basics
Soon GPS will become almost as basic as the telephone, or more likely included with every smartphone. GPS can calculate locations accurate to a matter of just a few meters. In fact, incredibly with advanced equipment it is possible to make measurements to better than a centimeter!
It’s just like assigning every square meter on the globe its very own address. GPS receivers have become very economical through miniaturization to just a few integrated circuits. These days GPS is becoming integrated into cars, boats, planes, construction equipment, movie making gear, farm machinery, laptop computers and especially mobile phones.
Tracking cell phones is a active topic with a lot of interest. A lot of the discussion surrounding cell tracking, mobile GPS and cell phone tracker software applications could be helped by a GPS Satellite primer and glossary.
GPS is an acronym for Global Positioning System. GPS satellites broadcast signals from space that GPS receivers use to determine three-dimensional location (latitude, longitude, and altitude) plus precise time. The GPS system is made up of 3 primary segments: Space Segment, Control Segment and User Segment.
The GPS Space Segment is comprised of twenty-four to thirty-two satellites that orbit the earth at a height of about 12,000 miles. These satellites are also known as as the GPS Constellation, and they make an orbit once every 12 hours. They are not geostationary, but rather move at over 7,000 mph. GPS satellites are solar powered but have battery reserve for when they are in the earth’s shadow. They are placed so that at any given time there are at least 4 satellites ‘visible’ from any point on earth. Small rocket boosters on each satellite keep them flying in the correct path. The satellites last about ten years until all their fuel runs out.
GPS Satellites are not communications satellites. Geostationary or communications satellites are parked in space 22,300 miles above the equator. These satellites are used for weather forecasting, satellite TV, satellite radio and most other types of global communications. At exactly 22,000 miles above the equator, the earth’s gravitational force and centrifugal forces are canceled and are in balance. This is the ideal location to position a communications satellite. The earth rotates at about 1,000 miles an hour, and because of their high earth orbit the geostationary satellites need to move at about 7,000 mph to keep position. This is approximately the same speed as GPS satellites, but since geostationary satellites are 10,000 miles further away they stay in place relative to the earth.
The GPS Control Segment includes Master Control Station, an Alternate Master Control Station, and numerous dedicated and shared Ground Antennas and Monitor Stations that work together to make sure the satellites are working to specification and the information they send to earth is accurate.
The GPS User Segment made up of of GPS receivers taking the shape of smartphones and , laptops, in-car navigation devices and hand-held tracking units along with the people that use them, and the software applications that make them function.
GPS receivers calculate location by precisely timing the signals sent by GPS satellites. This information includes the time the message was transmitted, precise orbital information (the ephemeris), and the general system health and rough orbits of all GPS satellites (the almanac).
Keep in mind that there is a fundamental difference between mobile phone GPS Tracking and GPS Navigation. GPS mobile phone tracking is usually related to a third-party keeping records of either real-time or historical handset location, while Navigation deals with the mobile phone user figuring out how to get from point A to point B. Neither use works without some kind of third-party software application.

Global Satellite System Glossary of basic terminology.
GPSThe Global Positioning System is made up of 24 GPS satellites, portable GPS receivers, and various ground-based support facilities.
GPS receiverThe either a standalone handheld device or electronic unit mounted on a vehicle dashboard or other movable item such as an ocean freight container, and now particularly common to be found inside phone handsets . Abbreviated “GPS” in common use.
Global Satellite System Frequently Asked Questions
Why does GPS receiver only work outside?
GPS satellites are orbiting such that from any point on the globe there are at least four satellites in site at any given time. Although they send signals by radio wave, the signal needs a clear of site to the receiver. If the GPS satellite drops behind the horizon, or a building, or even heavy cloud cover, the radio signal may be lost.
What do the satellites do?
The GPS satellites are broadcasting the time. Both the satellite and the GPS receiver use atomic clocks for extreme accuracy. By measuring the difference between the time given by the satellite and the time in the GPS receiver, it can calculate the distance from the satellite.
How do GPS satellites know their location?
The satellites keep location archived inside in calculated tables. But they can deviate off course over time. To make adjustments, the satellite communicates with ground stations located around the world. Each time it connects with the ground stations, the satellite adjusts its internal position tables.
Does a GPS receiver send information back to the satellite?
No, they don’t do that. GPS equipped mobile phones will transmit information but not to the satellite.

Distracted Drivers
The US Transportation Department recently presented a proposal to forbid text messaging at the wheel by cross-state truck and bus drivers. This regulatory action follows up on Department of Transportation call to mitigate distracted drivers that cause crashes.
The plan would replace the temporary ban put in place in January by the Transportation Secretary. The planned ban applies to drivers of passenger buses and commercial trucks operating vehicles with a gross vehicle weight over five tons. To give an idea of the serious nature of the problem, the drivers could face civil penalties and/or even criminal penalties.
The United States Department of Transportation reports that 5,870 people were killed and over a half million were injured in 2008 in crashes involving driver distraction. The department has not determined how many of those accidents involved mobile device. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration echoes the Transportation Department estimates with an estimate that about eighty percent of crashes are caused by distracted drivers. The AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety is sponsoring research to determine the extent of the distraction issue. The Governors Highway Safety Association (GHSA) reports that driver inattention is a determining factor in many crashes, and cell phone calls and sending text messages are some of the most common driver distractions.
State legislators aren’t waiting for research reports and are enacting new regulations dealing with cell phone calls and texting . The Governors Highway Safety Association reports that twenty states and the District of Columbia ban all drivers from texting while driving. Another nine states against texting by novice drivers. The remaining states are expected to implement the ban before too long. However it is also widely recognized that the laws are not enough to stop the problem and technology is neede. The Governors Highway Safety Association purports to say it supports texting bans for all drivers, but has doubts about enforcement.
An interesting source of a potential solution is Phone Beagle. Their software installs on Android and BlackBerry smartphones and monitors GPS location, and text messages along with other phone log events.
The trucking and passenger bus industries support the text message prohibition, and many companies have explicit policies prohibiting texting while behind the wheel. The government, industry and safety organizations all agree that driver distraction caused bytexting is a menace to society, and deserves action. Advocates for dealing with the problem also include media powerhouse Oprah Winfrey.
Undoubtedly there are many distractions which may prevent a driver focusing on driving: fiddling with the radio or a inserting tape or CD, talking to passengers, observing an event outside the vehicle, and of course, using mobile phones and sending text messages. Navigational and other interactive devices also cause inattention.
As legislation and technology work to to address the problems a software package from Phone Beagle is available to help deal with monitoring phone use. Their software installs on Android and BlackBerry mobile phones and monitors GPS location, and text messages along with other call log events.

Texting or Sexting – Do you Know What Your Kids are Doing?
Intercept SMS Text Messages
As texting from mobile phones has become a focus in youth social life, parents, educators and advocates have grown increasingly concerned about the role of cellular phones in the sexual lives of youths. A fresh research study from the Pew Research Center’s Internet & American Life Project (pewinternet.org/topics/Teens.aspx) found that four percent of cell-owning teenagers between age 12 and 17 say they have transmitted sexually suggestive nude or nearly nude images or videos of themselves to other people using SMS text messages. This activity is commonly referred to “sexting” in the current vernacular. Additionally, 15% say they have received these kinds of images images of someone they already know by way of text message.
According to a study from marketing research firm The Nielsen Company (blog.nielsen.com/nielsenwire/online_mobile/under-aged-texting-usage-and-actual-cost/) American youths send an unimaginable average of ten text messages every hour that they are not in school or sleeping – and most likely a lot during school too!

SMS Text Monitoring
Their younger counterparts – tweenagers – from age 9 to 12 sent about 1,100 texts every month. That that averages out to about four per hour they were in school or not sleeping. In comparison, the average number of monthly texts sent by all mobile users combined was just slightly above five hundred. In the fourth quarter 2009, tweenage users from age 9 to 12 increased text usage by 8% and almost doubled their text message volume.
Monitor SMS Text Messages
Focus group findings show that sending provocative images occurs usually under one of three typical scenarios: The first, exchanges of images just between two romantic partners;
the next, lists exchanges between partners that are then shared with other people; followed by, exchanges between people who are not yet in a relationship, but with one person hoping there will be one.
Teens were interviewed and gave Amanda Lenhart, Senior Research Specialist and author of the report a variety of explanations surrounding the motivation to get involved with sexting. These included the researcher’s interpretation that “…sexually suggestive images had become a form of relationship currency,”; that sexting images “… are shared as a part of or instead of sexual activity,” and that SMS text message sexting is a way of establishing a relationship. Sensitive images are also passed along to other people “… for their entertainment value, as a joke, or for fun.”
Teens also described to researchers the peer pressure to share these types of pictures. Not surprisingly the report also reveals that teens who are more intense users of cellular phones are more likely to to be sent sexually suggestive images. For these teens, the phone has become such a common means for communication and a variety of content that turning it off is unlikely.

The desire for risk-taking and sexual exploration during the teen years mixed with regular connection using mobile phones and other mobile devices “…creates a ‘perfect storm’ for sexting,” said Pew’s Amanda Lenhart. “Teenagers have always grappled with issues around sex and relationships, but their coming-of-age mistakes and transgressions have never been so easily transmitted and archived for others to see.”
The Teen Text Market Will Continue to Grow
Despite some indications that per user usage has peaked (they can’t possibly use them more can they?!?) Nielsen estimates that overall SMS usage will increase as the avid user population ages and entices the older generations to text with them in order to stay in contact with them. Current SMS users are expected to continue to use texting extensively and as tweenagers age they will increase usage. The number of text messages sent per capita has grown every year and should continue.

If you’ve got teens then you’re probably not surprised by the usage numbers. In all probability most parents don’t believe their teenagers are involved with sexting, or they are looking for ways to find out. While parents may fume that all the texts their teens and tweens are sending will land them in the poorhouse, Nielsen research indicates the average cost of a single text message is just one cent. The real issue affecting families is not so much how often teens use their phones but more about how they use their phones, and when they are texting.

Texting or Sexting – Do you Know What Your Kids are Doing?
Intercept SMS Text Messages
As sending text messages from cellular phones has become a focus in youth social life, parents, educators and advocates have grown increasingly troubled about the role of cellular phones in the sexual lives of young people. A recent survey from the Pew Research Center’s Internet & American Life Project (pewinternet.org/topics/Teens.aspx) determined that four percent of cell phone owning teens between the ages of 12-17 say they have sent sexually suggestive nude or nearly nude images or videos of themselves to someone else using SMS text messages. This activity is typically known as “sexting” in the current slang. Additionally, 15% say they have received these kinds of images images of someone they already know via SMS.
According to a study from market researchers The Nielsen Company (blog.nielsen.com/nielsenwire/online_mobile/under-aged-texting-usage-and-actual-cost/) American teenagers send an unimaginable average of ten SMS texts every hour that they are not in school or sleeping – and most likely a lot during class too!
By evaluating more than 40,000 monthly US mobile cellular bills, Nielsen found that American teens sent an average of an astonishing 3,146 texts each month during Q3 2009.
SMS Text Monitoring
Their younger counterparts – tweenagers – ages 9-12 years old sent an average of 1,146 text messages every month. That equates to four per hour they were in school or not sleeping. In comparison, the average number of monthly texts sent by all cell phone users collectively was just slightly above five hundred. In the fourth quarter 2009, tweenage users ages 9-12 years old increased SMS usage by eight percent and almost doubled their text message volume.

Focus group findings show that sexting happens most often during one of three typical scenarios: The first, exchanges of images just between two romantic partners;
the next, lists exchanges between partners that are then shared with other people; followed by, exchanges between people who are not yet in a relationship, but where often one person hopes to be.
Teens were interviewed and gave researchers various reasons surrounding the impulse to get involved with sexting.
Teens also shared with researchers the pressure they feel to share sexual pictures. Not surprisingly the report also reveals that youths that are intensive users of cell phones are more likely to receive sexually suggestive images. For these young people, the phone has become such an important conduit for communication and content of all kinds that turning it off is unlikely.
